CPT Vanessa Hooper-Yan grew up in Grosse Ile, Michigan. CPT Hooper-Yan graduated from Saint Mary’s College, Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications Studies. She was commissioned through the University of Notre Dame ROTC as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps on May 22, 2006.
She was initially assigned in January 2007 to Bravo Company, 589th Brigade Support Battalion, 41st Fires Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas. She served as the Maintenance Control Officer for 589th BSB and the Company Executive Officer for B Co, 589th BSB.
In April of 2008, CPT Hooper-Yan was assigned to HHB, 41st Fires Brigade in the S4 section. In June of 2008, CPT Hooper-Yan deployed to FOB Delta in support of OIF 08-09 and worked in the Mayor Cell as a Contracting Officer Representative and MWR entertainment representative. CPT Hooper-Yan was assigned as the Brigade S4 for 41st Fires Brigade in October of 2009.
CPT Hooper-Yan is a graduate of BOLC II and BOLC III (Ordnance Officer Basic Course). Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
