First Sergeant Torland Edwards

First Sergeant Torland D. Edwards was born in Bay City, Texas on August 16, 1976 and enlisted in the Army on 8 February 1995 as a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Fire Direction Specialist. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was initially assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Section 5th Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment (later reflagging as 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment (MLRS)), Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he served in the Battalion Fire Direction Center NCOIC, 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery (HIMARS) Fort Bragg, North Carolina, serving in A Battery, C Battery, and HHS Battery ,where he held positions of Platoon Operations Chief, Chief of Fire Direction (Battery), and the Battalion Fire Direction Chief. After serving a year in the Republic of Korea with A Battery 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery as the Battery Operations Chief he was assigned to C 1st Battalion, 39th Field Artillery Fort Stewart, Georgia as the Operations Sergeant and FDC Chief. He later served as the Operations Sergeant and Headquarters Troop NCOIC for 1st Battalion, 410th Field Artillery Regiment Fort Knox, Kentucky. 1SG Edwards most recently served with A Battery 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery as the Operations Sergeant and with HHB 2nd Battalion 20th Field Artillery as the S-2 NCOIC. First Sergeant Edwards has deployed in support of OIF and OEF to Iraq and Afghanistan. He has held every position within the MLRS community from driver to Battalion Fire Direction Chief.

First Sergeant Edwards's military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Field Artillery Master Gunner Course, Battle Staff, First Sergeant Course, Master Fitness Course, Airborne, and Air Assault School.

First Sergeant Edwards' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC); the Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC); Parachutist and Air Assault Badges. He is also a Sergeant Audie Murphy Club member, as well as a member of the Order of Saint Barbara.
