Congratulations 62nd ENG BN

By SGT Angela Green

Maj. Gen. Robert L. Heine presented the "Soldiers with hammers", commanded by Lt. Col. John R. Boule, a Meritorious Unit Commendation for outstanding achievement during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The citation is as follows:

"During the period of 14 January 2003 and 10 July 2003, 62nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) and its Soldiers distinguished themselves by outstanding achievement in support of Operation Enduring Freedom & Operation Iraqi Freedom. The inland petroleum distribution system was a crucial component to successful combat operations for coalition forces. The pipeline constructed by the 62nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) was the longest ever, and the first fully functional inland petroleum distribution system in military history. The inland petroleum distribution system provided the fuel that served as the lifeblood for combat forces, combat support, and combat service support forces throughout the area of operation. This tremendous display of technical competence, physical ability, and mental stamina reflects great credit upon the 62nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), the 416th Engineer Command, and the United States Army."
