Ground Broken for New Village School


LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Anaconda-based soldiers joined local sheiks and community leaders to break ground for a new school in Al Albin near here August 16.

The 226th Medical Logistics Battalion from Miesau, Germany is sponsoring the construction of the new school, which will be built from the ground up.

The elementary school is expected to be ready for the start of school in mid-September.

The Army provided the approximately $60K for construction but the planning and work will be done by members of the community and local contractors.

The school is one of over 30 local infrastructure and water projects being managed by the 13th COSCOM civil affairs staff.

Since January nearly $4M has been spent to improve local schools, clinics and irrigation systems in the areas surrounding LSA Anaconda.
