13th COSCOM Delivers School Supplies with Country Star


LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Anaconda based soldiers teamed up with country music star Chely Wright, the Iraqi National Guard and village leaders to bring school supplies to the children of Al Bu Hassan near here Sep. 17.

Members of the 13th COSCOM staff and Task Force Tacoma organized the mission that provided about 100 children with paper, pencils, scissors and other items for the school year that begins in October.

Wright, who was here to perform and meet deployed troops, is affiliated with Operation Iraqi Children an organization that has donated school supplies for over 5,000 students in the villages surrounding here.

The 13th COSCOM civil affairs staff receives the donations from OIC and coordinates distribution in the area

Wright and tour coordinator Judy Seale, President of Stars for Stripes, an organization that brings top entertainers to visit deployed troops, also handed out toys and stuffed animals. .

Members of the local Iraqi National Guard battalion worked with Task Force Tacoma to provide security and organize the excited crowd of children.

Over the next two months, Soldiers from here will distribute school supplies to more than 7,000 local students in 17 schools in the area surrounding the LSA.
