Education Volunteer Awards


LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Service members and civilians who volunteer their limited off duty time in support of continuing education will be honored in a ceremony at the Sustainer Theater here October 29.

Command Sgt. Maj. William Gainey the Multi-National Corps - Iraq Command Sgt. Maj. will be the guest speaker as about 45 volunteers are recognized for their contributions to education centers at camps and operating bases throughout Iraq.

"Volunteers have come from every service as well as government and contracted civilians," said Maj. Kristi Hilton, LSA Anaconda education services officer.

Hilton continued the work on the education program started by three soldiers from the 1st COSCOM during OIF I and oversaw the operation as it expanded throughout the country.

The volunteers have brought their military and civilian skills to bear both as teachers as well as with construction and computer automation.
