USO Tradition Lives On at LSA Anaconda

LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Nearly 2,000 soldiers and civilians watched as legendary Las Vegas showman Wayne Newton carried-on Bob Hope's legacy in a USO sponsored variety show at the outdoor stadium here Oct. 18.

Newton has been entertaining troops in hostile areas since the Vietnam War and recently took over the late Bob Hope's role as celebrity chairman of the USO's Celebrity Circle.

"As long as you keep coming back, we'll keep coming back," said Newton describing both the USO's and his own personal commitment to deployed service members.

Newton led a troupe featuring country music star Neal McCoy, actor-comedian Rob Schneider, the tap dancing McFadden Brothers, Spanish language TV personality Myrka Dellanos and singer Jenevi Bakch in two-hours of singing, dancing, comedy and various salutes to the troops.

The show will continue with performances throughout Iraq and Kuwait in the coming days.
