1,000 Backpacks Culminate Anaconda Area Back to School Season

LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Soldiers from various units based here teamed up Nov. 1 to bring needed school supplies to children in a local village.

Members of the 13th COSCOM staff, Special Troops Battalion, Corps Distribution Command, 84th Engineer Battalion and 81st Brigade Combat Team distributed nearly 1,000 loaded backpacks in Bakr Village.

Today's visit capped off a month long effort by the 13th COSCOM civil affairs staff to coordinate the distribution of backpacks to area schools during the first month of the new school year.

Operation Anaconda Neighborhood distributed school supplies to more than 3,800 students during the month of October.

Since their arrival in January the 13th COSCOM has funded more than $4.2 million in infrastructure improvements, school construction projects and water treatment facilities in the areas surrounding LSA Anaconda.
