544th Maintenance Battalion CSM, others, honored in post retirement ceremony

III Corps and Fort Hood honored military and civilian retirees in a ceremony here Friday.

Maj. Gen. James E. Simmons, the Commanding General of Fort Hood, presided over the ceremony that included the retirement of three sergeants major, a first sergeant, and five other senior noncommissioned officers.

Command Sgt. Maj. Edwardo M. Garcia Jr., the CSM of the 544th Maintenance Battalion, was one of the retirees honored in this ceremony.

Garcia entered the Army Dec. 2, 1974. He served overseas in Korea, Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal, second award; Army Commendation Medal, fifth award; and Army Achievement Medal, fourth award.

During the ceremony, Garcia was awarded the Legion of Merit in recognition of his exceptional meritorious service from Dec. 2, 1974 to Jan. 1, 2005.

After his retirement, Garcia and his family will reside in Harker Heights.
