The 13th Corps Support Command deployed more of its Soldiers over the weekend to provide logistic support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 53rd Quartermaster Company, along with more than 20 other Soldiers from several other companies, left Fort Hood Saturday to supply fuel to the nation's forces in the northern regions of Iraq, said 53rd 1st Sgt. Marlin Ingram.

This will be the 53rd's second deployment in support of OIF, Ingram continued. After nearly 18 months, he said the company was ready to return.

"[The 53rd is] doing what the Army has called for to help fight the war on terrorism," he said matter-of-factly, slightly shrugging his shoulders and grinning as if deployment was an everyday occurrence.

The COSCOM as a whole has had a very active role in the War on Terror, with an emphasis on Operation Iraqi Freedom. COSCOM units provide support to units from III Corps; 31st Air Defense Artillery out of Ft. Bliss, Texas; 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; 3rd Armored Cavalry Division from Fort Carson, Colorado; III Corps Artillery of Fort Sill, Oklahoma; 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard and the 50th Armored Division of the New Jersey National Guard.

The COSCOM's areas of support include maintenance, supply, medical, transportation, field services, engineer support, ordnance, decontamination and smoke generation, as well as helicopter evacuation support to Forts Hood and Sam Houston. This fact requires the COSCOM's leadership and Soldiers to be prepared for deployment any time one of these units needs support.

COSCOM currently has over 1,600 Soldiers deployed in support of OIF. COSCOM has additional units scheduled to deploy in the near future.
