Story by 2nd Lt. Jose Sanfeliz
Task Force 21

On May 18, 2006, the 21st Combat Support Hospital, 1st Medical Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), officially assumed responsibility for Theater Detainee Healthcare Operations from 344th CSH, an Army Reserve CSH from Fort Totten, New York, by conducting Transfer of Authority Ceremonies at Abu Ghraib and Camp Bucca.

Command Teams from the 30th Medical Brigade and the Army Reserve Medical Command were in attendance at Abu Ghraib Hospital to witness the TOA ceremony.

A Color Guard consisting of Soldiers from both Task Forces stood proudly while the Task Force 21 command team of Col. Jeffrey B. Clark and Command Sgt. Maj. Gerald Solis uncased the 21st Combat Support Hospital Colors.

During his speech, Clark graciously thanked distinguished guests and Soldiers from Forward Operating Base Abu Ghraib for welcoming Task Force 21 to the team.

He assured them TF 21 will continue to treat all detainees and coalition forces with dignity, respect, and privacy; and abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the Geneva Convention and the Department of Defense Detainee Healthcare Guidelines.

Clark concluded his remarks by thanking Col. William Martin and Command Sgt. Maj. Steven Villa, TF 344 Command Team, for the exemplary manner in which they executed the complex and challenging mission of detainee healthcare during the past year and praised them for creating conditions conducive to a successful mission for TF 21.

The 344th CSH, assumed the mission one year ago and has provided treatment for more than 13,000 detainees in Iraq.

"Our core values are the foundation upon which we accomplish our mission, take care of each other, and take care of our families. We know what is right and we will do just that. We have a noble mission and we will excel," concluded Clark.
