About 13th ESC
Current Mission
The 13th ESC was tasked to provide over half of its staff to support NATO Training Mission –Afghanistan (NTM-A) in their efforts to train the Afghan National Security Forces’ senior logisticians. Since receiving the mission in June 2011, the 13th ESC has conducted two Pre-deployment Site Surveys, a three-day Theater Academic Seminar, two weeks of Afghan Culture and Language Training, Advisor Training, Individual Readiness Training, three Command Post Exercises, and countless Video Teleconferences and phone calls with NTM-A to get ready for this unique mission. This was the first time a logistics unit of this echelon has been tasked to deploy not in their traditional role as a senior logistics headquarters but as mentors and trainers.
Traditional Mission
On order, the 13th ESC deploys, provides command and control of assigned, attached and operationally controlled (OPCON) units, and plans and provides sustainment, distribution, and health service support for full spectrum operations.
Command and Control
Upon deployment, the 13th ESC assumes command and control of assigned, attached, and OPCON sustainment units as directed by a Corps or Combined/Joint Task Force (C/JTF) headquarters.
While in garrison, the 13th ESC provides command and control for the 4th Sustainment Brigade and 13th Finance Management Center and maintains Training and Readiness Authority (TRA) over dozens of units across the Western United States.
Sustainment and Distribution Support
Upon deployment, the 13th ESC provides sustainment and distribution support on an area basis, and provides direct support to Echelons Above Brigade (EAB) units within each subordinate Sustainment Brigade Area of Operations (AO). The ESC provides this support by synchronizing the distribution of Class I (subsistence and gratuitous health and comfort items), Class II (Clothing, individual equipment, tents, organizational tool sets and kits, hand tools, administrative and housekeeping supplies and equipment), Class III (bulk and packaged petroleum products), Class IV (construction and barrier materials), Class V (ammunition), Class VII (major end items), and Class IX (repair parts and components). The ESC also manages and performs maintenance operations for supported customers.
While on Fort Hood, the 13th ESC provides sustainment support to all units on the installation, including the 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, 36th Engineer Brigade, 41st Fires Brigade, 48th Chemical Brigade, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, and several other tenant organizations. Additionally, the ESC provides reinforcing support to the Fort Hood Directorate of Logistics. |
