13th Coscom Soldiers Earn Connelly Award
On August 28, 2003, Staff Sgt. Lucio Norris and Spc. Renee Goddard of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, First Medical Brigade, 13th COSCOM, were awarded the Phillip A. Connelly Runner-Up Award for the Small Garrison Dining Facility Category on behalf of the Food Service personnel assigned to the Lynch Dining Facility.
This award was presented during the annual awards ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, Texas during the International Food Service Executive Services Association (IFSEA) Conference from August 25 - 28, 2003.
The Phillip A. Connelly Award is one that was established on March 23, 1968, to recognize excellences in the Army Food Service community. It was named after the late Phillip A. Connelly who was the former president of the IFSE Association. Mr. Connelly was the driving force behind the Army obtaining the Associations' sponsorship for the recognition of excellence in Army Food Service Program. The goals of the Connelly Awards Program are to improve the professionalism of food service personnel, provide the best quality food service to our soldiers, and recognize the personnel preparing and serving food in Army dining facilities and field kitchen operations.
Lynch Dining facility is categorized as a small garrison dining facility that serves approximately 200 soldiers during normal daily operations. During mealtime, the steady increase of soldiers in our facility epitomizes the quality of food our dining facility cooks provided. This Command holds our cooks in high esteem because they work tirelessly, for hours on end, in a hot kitchen serving food for other soldiers and asking for little in return. The sentiments of our soldiers are that "These are the folks that keep the Army going."
