Army Birthday Run

LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq — Hundreds of runners from different branches of the military came together here Monday morning to celebrate the Army's 229th birthday with a 5K run.
Brig. Gen. James E. Chambers, the 13th COSCOM commander, started the ceremonies with a rendition of the Army Song and later awarded trophies to the first three finishers in each category.
Michael Johannes won top honors in the men's category, finishing 3.1 miles in 17 minutes, 10 seconds. Charles Noble finished in second place in 17:40 and Scott McManus came in third with a time of 17:49.
Kara Lecker won the women's category in 19:32, Maria Johnson finished in second place in 21 minutes and Jeanne Duran came in third in 21:20.
In the team category, Headquarters and Service Company, 84th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) took top honors with an average time of 19:58. 407th Quartermaster Company finished in second place in 21:08 and 380th Medical Company finished in third place in 21:21.
