49th MCB Change of Command

The 49th Transportation Battalion (Movement Control) welcomed a new commander June 9 on the 13th Corps Support Command Guidon Field.

Lt. Col. Gust W. Pagonis, who began his military career in the infantry, assumed duties as battalion commander Thursday as his wife and three children looked on.

Pagonis was commissioned into the infantry after graduating from Pennsylvania State University. He later changed branches, going into transportation after graduating from the Transportation Officer's Advanced Course. He also holds a Master of Science degree from the Naval Post Graduate School.

Holder of the Bronze Star, Pagonis deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield, then formed and commanded the 9003rd Medium Truck Company during Operations Desert Storm and Farewell. He later deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia, in support of Operation Restore Hope. Pagonis also deployed to Kosovo before moving on to serve as battalion executive officer in the 299th Forward Support Battalion.

Most recently, Pagonis was assigned as the operations officer for the rear support command in the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps based in Germany.
