More than 300 Marine reservists based out of Miramar and Fresno Calif., and Naval Air Station, Fort Worth worked with a 13th COSCOM engineer company to construct a training landing strip here.
The Soldiers of the 68th Engineer Company and members of the Marine Wing Support Squadron 473 completed the construction of landing strip 12 in a joint training operation that culminated June 18.
"The training that took place at Fort Hood was just outstanding, the ranges and training aids provided were fantastic," said Maj. James C. Cummings, operations officer for MWSS 473.
Cummings added, "The 62nd Engineers were great about letting us borrow equipment and work on the LS-12 operation, which enabled us to meet our training objective."
The joint training/construction operation benefited the Army and Marine Corps.
"It was a unique training experience for us and them. It's not every day you get to do a joint operation in garrison. We learned a lot from them and I hope they learned from us," said Capt. Robert C. Kimmel, commanding officer of the 68th Engineer Company.
"We definitely appreciated the opportunity to come down and train with Soldiers. Everyone we worked with was great," said Cummings.
