COSCOM holds quarterly awards ceremony

The 13th Corps Support Command held its quarterly awards ceremony January 5 at the Phantom Warrior Center here.
More than 25 Soldiers received awards for exceptional performance during the first quarter of fiscal year 2006.
Spc. Reko Parker of the 4th Corps Materiel Management Center and Sgt. Adalberto Santiago Valle of the 181st Chemical Battalion were named Soldier and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter respectively. The two were also presented awards by the COSCOM's civilian sponsors, the city of Temple, the Association of the United States Army, and One Vision.
COSCOM's food service personnel were highly represented at the awards ceremony, with nine Soldiers receiving awards and recognition.
Spc. Morrisa Johnson, of the 64th Corps Support Group, was honored as the Food Service Cook of the Quarter and Sgt Jaquita Rideuax was selected the Food Service Non-Commissioned Officer of the quarter
The COSCOM and 3rd Signal Brigade's Freeman Dining Facility was named Outstanding Dining Facility during the recent Thanksgiving competition, leading to ARCOMs for Sgt. 1st Class Richard Applewhite of the 553rd Corps Support Battalion and Staff Sgt. Dennis Wiges of the 2nd Chemical Battalion.
AAM awardees were Staff Sgt. Isaac Russell of the 180th Transportation Battalion, Spc. Sadie Logeais and Spc. Anita Scott of the 553rd, Spc. Cynthia Velarde of the STB and Pfc. Rosa Hinojosa of the 4th Corps Materiel Management Center.
For support and stellar participation during Joint Task Force Katrina, Meritorious Service Medals were awarded to Maj. Matt Melvin and Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Brown, both of the COSCOM's Special Troops Battalion.
ARCOM awardees were Maj. Ken Patterson, Maj. Jay Adams, Master Sgt. Jeffery Jackson and Staff Sgt. Christina Baxter of the STB and Capt. David Luttrell of III Corps.
Those who received the AAM are Capt. Ryan Beery, Staff Sgt Rodney Kaser, Staff Sgt. Tara Spencer, Sgt. Nolan Rowley and Spc. Julie Chism of the 21st Corps Support Hospital.
Two organizers of the COSCOM's Christmas Ball were awarded medals for their efforts in making the ball a success. Maj. Barbara Bachman of the 1st Medical Brigade was awarded an Army Commendation Medal, and Capt. Shannon Moorman, of the STB, an Army Achievement Medal.
One civilian who supports the COSCOM's mission received recognition for exceptional service. Lynne Scot, the COSCOM Comptroller, received the sole civilian award for the quarter.
Certificates of Achievement were also given to members of the 21st Cavalry Brigade for their support of the COSCOM during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The final awards were given for exceptional retention rates - for both individual retention NCOs and units. The NCOs recognized are Staff Sgt. Tausha Anderson, Staff Sgt. Brian Helgren of the 1st Medical Brigade and Staff Sgt. Yolanda Smith of the 553rd.
Unit awards were given to the 1st Medical Brigade, 64th Corps Support Group, Special Troops Battalion, 4th Corps Materiel Management Center and 49th Movement Control Battalion.
This award ceremony is a quarterly event, giving Soldiers the opportunity to be praised and recognized - not only by the command, but by their fellow Soldiers as well said COSCOM Commander Brig. Gen. Michael J. Terry.
