Soldiers of 1st Platoon, 181st Chemical Company, 2nd Chemical Battalion, 64th Corps Support Group, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), deployed in support of OIF from the SC (E) Gym here Sunday.

"We're going to be doing dual-purpose missions," said 2nd Lt. Carrie A. Kennedy, Platoon Leader of the deploying unit.

Kennedy continued, "We'll be doing smoke and decontamination, primarily supporting the 4th Infantry Division."

Kennedy said it's not uncommon for chemical units to deploy in small platoon-sized elements to support larger units.

"We didn't train any differently than we normally would," said Staff Sgt. Peter M. Reid, the Platoon Sergeant of the deploying platoon, "We train as we fight, like always."

"I'm excited about deploying, it's been a long time coming," said Spc. Brandon L. Newman, a chemical operations specialist with the 181st.
