The Red Dragons of the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) are scheduled to undergo a change of command during a ceremony at Sadowski Field here Friday.
Lt. Col. David Wilcox, commander of the 2nd Chemical Battalion, 64th Corps Support Group, will relinquish command to Lt. Col. Sven Erichsen following a distinguished tour as commanding officer of both the chemical battalion and the 64th CSG Rear.
Wilcox, with the support of his wife, Carol, has overseen 17 companies and 10 rear detachments since the 64th CSG headquarters deployed in August, 2005. While transitioning to rear commander, he planned, prepared and deployed a logistical task force that played a key role in the joint logistics command's support mission to support Hurricanes Katrina and Rita relief efforts.
While fulfilling his responsibilities as battalion commander, Wilcox planned, coordinated and executed deployment and redeployment operations, ensuring all deploying forces were equipped and manned fully, whether supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom or Bright Star, said Col. Cassandra Roberts, commander of the 64th Corps Support Group, who is currently in Iraq.
Beyond command responsibilities, Wilcox and his wife have been recognized for their commitment to their Soldiers and their Soldiers' families. Carol Wilcox was recently nominated for the Yellow Rose of Texas Award.
The Yellow Rose of Texas Award is given to members of Texas communities who have shown a commitment to community and volunteer service. Awardees are chosen through the award commission and receive gubernatorial recognition.
"Her commitment and unwavering desire to make a difference (has) inspired numerous Soldiers and families," said Maj. David Deyak, Executive Officer of the 2nd Chemical Battalion. "She is an invaluable asset whose contributions to the community far exceed expectations."
As these two invaluable assets prepare to move on, the 13th SC(E) and the 2nd Chem Bn welcome Erichsen into the command.
