The 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) held a deployment ceremony at Kieshnick Physical Fitness Center as three of its units deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Aug. 16 and 17.
The 546th Area Support Medical Company and the 566th ASMC from the 61st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 1st Medical Brigade, 13th SC (E) and the 418th Transportation Company, 180th Trans. Bn., 4th Sustainment Bde., 13th SC (E) deployed a total of nearly 350 Soldiers combined.
The 418th Trans. mission to provide convoy escort patrols is in direct contrast to the 546th and the 566th ASMC’s mission.
“Our unit mission is to do convoy escort patrols and provide [anyone in our area of operation] transportation support,” said Sgt. Shawn Taylor, a team leader with the 418th Trans. Company.
Taylor said his primary job is to ensure all of his Soldiers make it back home safe.
My guys are professionals, Taylor said.
“They are ready to carry out the mission and my only job is to get them home in one piece,” he added.
The 566th and 546th ASMC mission is to provide level I and level II combat health support to include surgical capabilities, advanced trauma life support, sick call, patient holding, dental services, diagnostic services, preventive medicine, mental health, optometry, and ground evacuation services on an area support basis.
All three units deploy in support of OIF as more than 600 Soldiers from the 13th SC (E) headquarters, 4th Corps Materiel Management Center and the 49th Movement Control Battalion returned home from deployment in support of OIF from mid-July and August.
