FORT HOOD, Texas — Family members of the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) welcomed Eliane Wentz, wife of Col. Paul Wentz, the commanding general of the 13th SC(E), to the command as its new official First Lady at the Fort Hood Catering and Conference Center, Aug. 20.
As guests filled the conference center, Ann Grothe, spouse of the 13th SC(E) Chief of Staff, Col. Glen Grothe stood alongside Wentz as she formally introduced herself to her new Fort Hood family.
In her opening remarks, Grothe commented about Wentz and her ability to serve as the 13th SC (E) “First Lady”.
“She’s very focused and ready to take this on” Grothe said. “She’s a woman of perseverance and tenacity and those are excellent things to bring to the 13th,” she added.
Wentz said she hopes to continue the legacy of the 13th SC(E) “First Lady” by becoming an active participant in community programs here, particularly Santa’s Workshop.
“I know the 13th has a huge role in that (Santa’s Workshop) and I would like to really get involved in that,” Wentz continued, “I think it’s a great idea, love the concept so that’s something I’m really interested in.”
When asked how she felt about her new role in the 13th SC(E), Wentz replied, “It’s a little scary…I just hope that I can be a positive influence and do some good things. I’ve heard some wonderful things about the 13th and I hope to keep up that tradition.”
“With transformation come new challenges,” Wentz said as she prepares for a new chapter in her life.
Wentz said she’s ready to take on her new responsibility in full force.
Our new first lady said she is looking forward to getting to know the Soldiers and families of the 13th and is very optimistic about things to come.
Eliane Wentz comes to Fort Hood from a tour in Germany with her husband. They have two children, daughter Kristen who is a First Lieutenant in the Army and son Peter who is a Radiation Technician in Alabama.
