Chief of Staff (Forward)

COL Steve Gilland

Chief of Staff (forward) -

Colonel Steve Gilland, from Rock Island, Illinois, was commissioned in the Infantry upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1990. Colonel Gilland has served in a variety of tactical assignments in mechanized, ranger and special operations units. He has served in the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), 2nd Infantry Division (Mechanized), 75th Ranger Regiment, the United States Army Special Operations Command and the 1st Cavalry Division.

Colonel Gilland has commanded at multiple levels from Captain to Colonel. He has participated in numerous operational deployments to the Middle East and Africa. During several of these tours, he commanded various Joint Special Operations Task Forces.

    Mission Statement

    1CD prepares lethal, flexible, agile Division HQ and Brigades competent in Combined Arms Maneuver and Wide Area Security to execute missions to Prevent, Shape, Win as directed.
