MICHAEL J. MULLANEY
CSM, USA


Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Michael J. Mullaney entered the United States Army on August 8, 1985. He attended his Basic Combat Training at Fort Dix, NJ and received Advanced Individual Training for Military Occupational Specialty 91A (Medical Specialist) at Fort Sam Houston, TX.


CSM Mullaney’s combat tours include both Afghanistan supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM XII and Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 09-11; His overseas assignments include tours in Germany at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC), and in Alaska with the 6th Infantry Division (Light) at Fort Richardson, AK. His assignments in the continental United States include duty with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY; Academy Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; 5th Ranger Battalion (Training), Fort Benning, GA; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX; Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, WA; 62nd Medical Brigade (Provisional) (Rear) and the 47th CSH, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA; Currently he is assigned as the Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Medical Brigade (Silver Knights) III Corps, Fort Hood, TX.


His leadership assignments include: Combat Aidman, 3/327th Air Assault Infantry, Fort Campbell, KY, where he deployed in support of peacekeeping operations on the Sinai peninsula in Egypt. Section Team Leader, Forward Area Surgical Team, A/326th Medical Battalion, Ft Campbell, KY. Aide/Evacuation NCO, Airborne Trauma Treatment Squad Leader, and Operations Sergeant/Training NCO, B/306th FSB Fort Richardson, AK. Senior Evacuation NCO and Medical Platoon Sergeant, HHC 2/327th Air Assault Infantry, Fort Campbell, KY. Instructor/NCOIC of the AMEDD Officer’s Basic/Advanced Courses, Academy Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, TX. Battalion Senior Medic for the 5th Ranger Battalion (Training), Fort Benning (Dahlonega), GA. NCOIC, Education Division and Alpha Company First Sergeant at LRMC. Chief Medical NCO for the Western Regional Medical Command and Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, WA. Brigade Command Sergeant Major for the 62nd Medical Brigade (Rear) (Provisional), Hospital CSM for the 47th Combat Support Hospital (CSH), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, and TF 47th CSH CSM, COB Speicher, Iraq; Keller Army Community Hospital CSM, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY; Task Force Medical – Afghanistan (TF MED-A) CSM, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.


CSM Mullaney's Military & Civilian Education includes the Army’s premier leadership training course, RANGER school. Other courses are Jumpmaster school, Airborne school, Air Assault school, Master Fitness course, Equal Opportunity Leader course, various military mountaineering courses, Instructor Trainer and Small Group Leader courses, and Jungle warfare training. He has attended all levels of NCOES culminating in his graduation on the Commandant’s List of class 55 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, TX and has completed the Command Sergeant’s Major Course at Fort Leavenworth, KS. He has also completed the Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education (SEJPME) course. He graduated cum laude from Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Science degree and is currently working on his master’s degree in military history.


His awards and decorations include: The Legion of Merit (1 OLC), Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medals (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medals (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medals (4 OLC), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 CS), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 CS), the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, the Multi-National Force and Observers Medal, and the NATO Medal. His unit awards include the Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC), and the Army Superior Unit Award.


CSM Mullaney is also the recipient of the highly coveted RANGER tab, Combat Action Badge, Expert Field Medic Badge, US Army Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Parachutist Badge in bronze, the Schützenschnur (German marksmanship award), , and the U.S. Army Jungle Expert Patch.


He is also a distinguished member of both the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and the Order of Military Medical Merit.
