Command Sergeant Major Michael Hatfield

Command Sergeant Major Hatfield is a native of Odessa, Texas. He entered the Army on 10 Mar 1987 and completed OSUT Training at Fort Sill, OK as a 13B (Cannoneer). He received his secondary MOS 13M (MLRS) MOS in 1996 at Fort Sill.

His military training includes United States Army Sergeant's Major Academy, First Sergeant’s Course, Advance Non Commissioned Officer Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Whitehouse Evasive Driving Course, CIA BIO/CHEM Engineering Production Course, Portable Isotope Neutron System Course, Hazardous Material, Ultrasonic Pulse Echo Course, Defense Threat Reduction Agency DEMIL Operations, CIA Marksmanship Training Course, United Nations Chemical Weapons Treaty, Radiation Safety Course, NBC Operations Course and the United States Sergeant’s Major Academy Battle Staff Course.

CSM Hatfield has served in a variety of duty positions to include: Asst. Gunner, Armorer, and Gunner, A Battery 2/7 FA 10th Mountain Division; Section Chief, and Gunnery Sergeant, C Battery 3/82 FA 1ST Calvary Division; Section Chief, A Battery 21st FA 1st Calvary Division; Section Chief, C Battery 6/37 FA 2d Infantry Division; Platoon Sergeant and Master Gunner, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 2/20 FA 4ID; Weapons Specialist, Treaty Escort Manager, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, Defense Threat Reduction Agency; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 2d Infantry Division Artillery; First Sergeant, HHC 2D Infantry Division; G-3 4ID SGM; Fires and Effects SGM, 4ID; 6th Iraqi Army MiTT SGM; and is currently assigned as the Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion 20th Field Artillery.

His CONUS and OCONUS assignments include Fort Drum, New York; three tours to Fort Hood, Texas; a tour in the Military District of Washington; and two tours to the Republic of Korea. He served in Desert Storm with 1st Cav and has served 3 Tours in OEF and OIF with CFLCC, CENTCOM, 75th Exploitation Task Force, the Iraqi Survey Group and 4th Infantry Division.

CSM Hatfield’s awards include Bronze Star Medal; Joint Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC); Joint Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal (8OLC); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (8OLC); Global War Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Humanitarian Service medal; and Unit Meritorious Service Medal. He is a member of the prestigious SGT Audie Murphy Club, a Honorable Order of Saint Barbara Member, and a member of the Major General Aubrey “Red” Newman Award.
