Until a new distinctive unit insignia is designed, the Brigade will continue to wear its CATB insignia. The motto, IMPETUM PERSEQUI,
"Continue the Attack", will remain the same to show lineage with the Combat Aviation Training Brigade.
The shoulder patch intends to maintain the
unit-type, Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat), association as is the tradition of
armor and cavalry units. Its shape and design tie the Brigade to its lineage at
Fort Hood in the mission it has fulfilled under the names of the Apache Training
Brigade and the Combat Aviation Training Brigade.
Originally a part of the 6th Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat) as
the AH-64 Task Force Headquarters, the Apache Training Brigade was separated in
1986 to accomplish its mission apart from the deployable 6th Cavalry Brigade.
The 6th Cavalry, itself created from the 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, had
adopted the shape of the 1st Cavalry Division patch for its own patch. The
lineage is therefore maintained for the 21st Cavalry Brigade (AC). The gold
eagle is maintained from the CATB insignia.
