Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Kirkpatrick

LTC Chris “CJ” Kirkpatrick graduated from West Point and was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 2000. Upon completing the Armor Officer Basic Course in 2001, LTC Kirkpatrick was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as a Tank Platoon Leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Company Executive Officer, and Scout Platoon Leader. In March of 2004, LTC Kirkpatrick deployed to Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II as the Battalion S4.

After completing the Armor Officer Advanced Course in 2006, LTC Kirkpatrick returned to Fort Hood and 1st Brigade (Ironhorse), 1st Cavalry Division. During his time in the Ironhorse Brigade, LTC Kirkpatrick commanded A (Annihilator) and C (Cobra) Companies, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. Upon his return in January 2008, he attended the University of Utah and earned a Masters in Middle Eastern History in 2010. LTC Kirkpatrick then transitioned to West Point, teaching in the Department of History from 2010-2012.

After completing the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2013, LTC Kirkpatrick was assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Washington. During his 24 months at JBLM, LTC Kirkpatrick served as the Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division and the Squadron Executive Officer for 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment. In 2015, LTC Kirkpatrick was accepted as a fellow in the Advanced Strategic Plans and Policy Program, and attended graduate school at the Graduate Center, City University of New York where he advanced to PhD candidacy in Middle Eastern History in 2017.

His awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal (2), Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (2), Combat Action Badge, and Army Parachutist Badge.
