Command Sergeant Major Mendez

Command Sergeant Major Kim L. Mendez Jr. is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida. He enlisted into the United States Army November 1993, and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia where he earned the title of Infantryman and was awarded the MOS of 11B. His duty positions range from rifleman to M240 gunner and he has served in every leadership position from Fire Team Leader to Company First Sergeant. He has numerous deployments to Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan. His assignments include TANGO Security Force Yongsan Korea, Bravo Company 2-187th Infantry Regiment “Rakkasans” Fort Campbell Kentucky, Charlie Company 1-501st Airborne Infantry “Geronimo” Fort Richardson Alaska, 101st G3 Current Operations, Charlie Company 3-502nd “Widowmakers” Fort Campbell Kentucky, Charlie Company 1-21 “Gimlets”, NCO Academy and Charlie Company 1-14 “ Golden Dragons” Schofield Barracks Hawaii, Bravo and Charlie Companies 4-9 “Manchus” 4th SBCT Fort Lewis Washington, Bravo Company 1-19 “Rock Steady” Fort Benning Georgia, Attack Company 2-1 “Legions” 2nd SBCT Fort Lewis Washington, HHB 72D Field Artillery Brigade Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst New Jersey, and his most recent assignment has been the Operations SGM for Sabre Squadron 2/3d CR “Brave Rifles”.

CSM Mendez’s military and civilian education includes, the Basic, Advanced, and Senior Leader Courses, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Basic Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course, FBCB2 Leader OPNET Course, Land Warrior Training Course, Joint Readiness Training Center Observer Controller Course, Battle Staff Course, Modern Army Combatives Program level I, Anti-Terrorism Officer Basic Course, Close Quarter Marksmanship Course, Stryker Pre-Command Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, Master Resilience Training Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 66 and Battalion Pre-Command Course. His civilian education includes an Associate’s in Counter Terrorism and a Bachelor’s in Homeland Security both from American Public University.

CSM Mendez’s military awards include, the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Bronze Star Medal (4th award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (5th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal (1 bronze star), Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon numeral 5, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon numeral 5, NATO Afghanistan Ribbon numeral 2, Multi-National Force and Observers Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation (3rd award). He has also been awarded the Order of Saint Maurice for distinguished contributions to the Infantry.
