1CD provides combat ready forces in support of regionally aligned missions and Combatant Commanders. When directed, performs as an Expeditionary Division and executes Unified Land Operations. On order, performs as a JTF Headquarters.

Command Sergeant Major Bryan Barker XXI Regimental Command Sergeant Major, 3d Cavalry Regiment.
Command Sergeant Major Bryan D. Barker a native of Crooks, South Dakota, entered the Army on the 13th of June 1996 where he attended and completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) for the MOS 11B at Ft. Benning, GA. He is a graduate of Airborne School, US Army Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, US Marine Corps Winter Mountain Leader course, Pre-Command Course and all levels of NCOES to include the United States Army Sergeants Majors Course, class #63. CSM Barker has his associate’s degree from Excelsior College.
Command Sergeant Major Barker has served in various positions as an Infantryman. He has held all positions from rifleman to Operations Sergeant Major in 2/75th Ranger Regiment in JBLM, WA and most recently as CSM for 1/91 Cavalry Regiment. CSM Barker’s overseas assignments include a tour in Germany with deployments to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine and has six combat deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and eight combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
His awards and decorations include: The Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Canadian, Korean, Moldovan and Czech parachutist badge, Bronze Star Medal (4 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 2 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal (w/ “V” 2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (w/ 4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (w/ 4 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraq Champaign Medal (w/ 5 campaign stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/4 campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, NATO medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4) and the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4). CSM Barker is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice and the Order of Saint George-Bronze.
