Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Gene A Sousa II enlisted to the Army in the Delayed Entry Program from Huntington Beach, CA. He started Basic Combat Training on 14 September 1988 at Fort Dix, NJ

 

CSM Sousa served with 48th Maintenance Company, Wildflecken, GE as a Power Generation Repairer from 1989 to 1991, upon completion of his initial enlistment he ETSed. After an eight month break-in-service CSM Sousa re-enlisted in 1992 as a M1 Tank Hull Mechanic (63E) and attended AIT at FT Knox, KY. His assignments include: Squad Leader and M88A1 Vehicle Commander, 2/72 Armor, 2ID, Camp Casey, Korea; Shop Foreman, C Troop 1/7 Cavalry, 1CD and Maintenance Team Chief, A Troop 1/7 Cavalry, 1CD, FT Hood, TX; Drill Sergeant, D Company, 1/61 Infantry, FT Jackson, SC; Maintenance Team Chief, B Company 1/67 Armor, 4ID; First Sergeant, G Forward Support Company, 204th Support Battalion, 4ID, FT Hood, TX; Squadron Operation’s Sergeant and HHT First Sergeant 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, FT Irwin, CA; most recently serving as the Track, Metalworking and Recovery Department Sergeant Major, Ordnance School, Fort Lee, VA.

 

CSM Sousa’s military education includes the M1 Recovery Specialist Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Drill Sergeant’s Course, Senior Leaders Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, the First Sergeant’s Course and Sergeants Major Course (Class 60).

 

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Ribbon (Bronze Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (Two Bronze Stars), Iraqi Campaign Medal (Four Bronze Stars) Global War on Terrorism (GWOT)-Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NCOPD Ribbon (w/numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (5th Award), the Army Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Award, and the Superior Unit Award. He is a member of the Honorable Order of Samuel Sharp, Order of Saint Barbara and is a Patron Saint of Armor.

 

He is married to Felecia Sousa of Rocky Mount, VA for 19 years, they have one son Kedrick.
