41st Fires Brigade Commander

William E. McRae

Colonel William E. McRae is a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio and a 1989 graduate of the United States Military Academy.

 

Throughout his career, COL McRae has served in key leadership positions in the Artillery community and on operational staffs from battalion to Corps level. His previous assignments include Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Leader positions in the 41st Field Artillery Brigade, Fire Support and Battery XO positions in the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), Battery Command in the 2nd Infantry Division Artillery, and the Korean Theater Officer Strength Manager (CS/CSS). Following Command and General Staff College, COL McRae served as the 82nd Airborne Division AFSCOORD (plans) (OIF), DFSCOORD (OEF), 3-319th AFAR Battalion Executive Officer, and 82nd Airborne Division Artillery S3, 82nd Airborne Division Secretary of the General Staff, Executive Officer, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Commander, 1st Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, and XVIII Airborne Corps Chief of Fires.

 

A graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced courses at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, COL McRae also attended the Command and General Staff College, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He holds an undergraduate degree in Management from the United States Military Academy, a graduate degree in Education from Troy University, and a graduate degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

 

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (two Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (six Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Ranger Tab. He is also authorized to wear the Ukrainian, Chilean, Romanian, and German Parachutist wings.
