After completion of Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he first served with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Infantry Division Artillery as a troop fire support officer for the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment. His next assignments were with the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery as a platoon leader and battalion fire support officer. After the Captain’s Career Course, Major McDaniel was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. There he served as the battalion fire direction officer and battery commander for the Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battery. In March of 2003, he deployed his battery in support Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon redeployment, he assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 212th Field Artillery Brigade.
His next assignment was as a fire support officer assigned to US Army Central at Fort McPherson, Georgia. There he conducted Field Artillery theater security cooperation programs in Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Egypt. Following a year at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Major McDaniel deployed in support Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-10 as a Military in Transition Team operations advisor attached first to the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division, then the C35 Future Operations section, Multi-National Corps-Iraq. After returning, he was assigned to Fort Hood and the 41st Fires Brigade where he served as the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery operations officer, battalion executive officer, and brigade executive officer.
Major McDaniel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Management from Webster University.
Major McDaniel is married to the former LaNeesa Dawn Byrd of Bulverde, Texas and they have two children.
