Command Sergeant Major Hughes was born on June 30, 1961 in Haynesville, Louisiana. He entered the Regular Army in August 1979. Upon completion of basic and advanced individual training he was assigned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
CSM Hughes has served in a wide variety of assignments both overseas and the continental United States. Prior to assuming his current duties as the Command Sergeant Major of the 41st Fires Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas, CSM Hughes served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion 21st Field Artillery, Fort Hood, Texas.
CSM Hughes deployments and significant events include; REFORGER, Central Germany; Joint NATO Exercise, Istanbul, Turkey; National Training Center, California; Team Spirit, Korea; Cobra Gold, Thailand; Joint Readiness Training Center, Arkansas; Joint Readiness Training, Louisiana; Orient Shield, Japan; Operation Desert Storm; and Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
CSM Hughes military education includes: the Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Noncommissioned Course; Advance Noncommissioned Course; Battle Staff Course; First Sergeant Course (Honor Graduate); United States Army Sergeants Major Army Academy (Class 53); Air Assault School; Rappel Master Course; Air Movement Operations School; Load Planners Course; Equal Opportunity Course; Joint Fire Power Control Course.
