Captain James D. Moffitt JR hails from College Station, Texas. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery on the 19th of January 2006. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Economics and a minor in Business.
After commissioning, Captain Moffitt was assigned to A 1-21 FA, 4th Infantry Division, where he served as a platoon leader in Alpha Battery and then later as the Executive Officer for Charlie Battery. He maintained the XO position in Charlie 1-21 FA for a 15 month deployment in support of OIF 08-09. CPT Moffitt helped the battery prepare for multiple mission changes within country, moving from Camp Bucca to COB Basra, and finally to FOB Delta. Upon redeployment from Iraq CPT Moffitt was asked to take command of Alpha Battery 1-21 Field Artillery.
While in Command of Alpha Battery, CPT Moffitt led his Soldiers through reset and the training phase of the ARFORGEN cycle. He successfully oversaw firing tables V-XII with zero safety incidents. CPT Moffitt worked diligently to re-establish battery systems focusing on command supply discipline and maintenance which helped the battery maintain a high operational readiness rate at all times.
Captain Moffitt’s military schools include Officer Candidate School, the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, and the BFIST Commander Course. CPT Moffitt’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
