UNIT CREST

Description: A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Argent in chief an Army truck Buff, in base a compass card in perspective Gules (Brick Red). Attached below the shield is a silver scroll inscribed "WE NEVER STOP" in black letters.

Symbolism: Brick red is the color used for the Transportation Corps and buff alludes to the 49th Quartermaster Truck Regiment from which the unit is descended. The Quartermaster truck indicates the trucks’ ability to perform allotted duties at all four points of the compass. The color red is added for design and denotes the martial prowess of the organization. The motto is expressive of the continuous service rendered.

Background: The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 49th Quartermaster Truck Regiment on 27 Jan 1943. It was redesignated for the 49th Quartermaster Battalion, Mobile on 15 Apr 1944. The insignia was redesignated and amended to change the blazon and symbolism for the 49th Transportation Center on 31 Jan 1968. On 1 Sep 1999, the distinctive unit insignia was redesignated for the 49th Transportation Battalion.
