303rd Military Intelligence Battalion

    truckThe 303rd Military Intelligence Battalion was first constituted as the 303rd Communications Reconnaissance Battalion on 22 September 1950.

 The Unit was activated on 25 September 1950 at Arlington Hall, Virginia, and consolidated on 17 July 1951 with the 540th Signal Service Company. The 303rd MI Battalion moved quickly into deployment to Korea and joined with the 501st Communications Reconnaissance Group where its mission was to provide Communications Intelligence to US Forces supporting the UN commitment to the Republic of Korea.

Previously, most Army Security Agency assets had been concentrated at fixed sites, performing a peacetime strategic mission, however, the Agency now found a new role in providing support to tactical operations, activating Communications Recon Groups, battalions and companies, such as the 303rd.

The 303rd earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its outstanding services in Korea in support of combat operations (1951-1952), and received a Presidential Unit Citation (1951-1952) for the intelligence collection that contributed tremendously toward the fulfillment of the United Nations campaign for world peace.
