COL Hensley, Chuck
Colonel Charles T. Hensley was commissioned in 1988 as an Infantry Officer after graduating from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a major in Philosophy. His initial assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served as a rifle platoon leader, support platoon leader, Aide-de-Camp, and assistant operations officer. After attending the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Colonel Hensley was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas and served as an assistant operations officer on the 1st BCT staff and commanded Delta Company, 2nd Squadron, 5th Cavalry. Upon completion of command, he served at the National Training Center (NTC), Fort Irwin, California, where he served with the Tarantula Team for two years followed by a two year assignment at Fort Knox as a Small Group Instructor. After Command and General Staff College, Colonel Hensley was assigned to 1st Armored Division in Germany and served as the Battalion S-3 in 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry, the 2nd BDE S-3, and the Deputy G3. After returning to Germany from Iraq, Colonel Hensley was assigned to the United States European Command (USAREUR) in Stuttgart, Germany where he served as an Operations Officer in the Current Actions Branch of the J3 Directorate. From USAREUR, Colonel Hensley went to Fort Irwin and served as the Commander, for 2/11 Cavalry Regiment, followed by an assignment to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) as a Senior Observation Controller. After JMRC, Colonel Hensley served two years as the G3 for 1st ID at Fort Riley and most recently graduated from the Army War College. Awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two awards of the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge with Combat Jump Star, and the Air Assault Badge. Colonel Hensley is married to the former Ms. Nikki Taylor of Trimont, Minnesota and they have three daughters, Katy (12), Elly (9), and Maggy (5).
504th BfSB Command Sergeant Major
CSM Bernardo B. Serna
Command Sergeant Major Bernardo B. Serna hails from Laredo, Texas. He entered the military on 18 June 1986, attending basic training at FT. Jackson, South Carolina and Advance Individual Training at the Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida as a Non-Morse Interceptor Specialist, 05K.
CSM Serna’s assignments include 3 tours in Germany, 1 Japan, 3 combat tours in Iraq and 1combat tour in Afghanistan. Other significant assignments include 1SG, B Co 312th MI BN, 1st Cavalry Division (1CD); 1SG, A Co, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1CD; 1 Cavalry Division G2 SGM, B Co DSTB, 1CD, CSM 309th MI BN;CSM 1st MI BN (AE); CSM Task Force Condor in Kandahar; Acting CSM for the 66th MI BDE; CSM Serna currently serving as the 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade CSM and the CSM for Multi-National Battle Group-East CSM. CSM Serna has held numerous leadership positions including Squad Leader, Section Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Detachment NCOIC, First Sergeant, G2 SGM for the 1st Cavalry Division, Battalion CSM, and Brigade CSM.
