CPT Christian Merz

 

CPT Christian Merz is a native of Fremont, CA. He commissioned as an Infantry officer in May of 2007 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.

His first assignment was as a rifle platoon leader in Bravo Company, 2/35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd IBCT in Schofield Barracks, HI from 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2012, he served as a Ranger platoon leader, company executive officer, and assistant adjutant in 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. His most recent assignment was as the squadron assistant operations officer for 2/38th Cavalry Regiment, 504th BFSB, Fort Hood, TX.

CPT Merz has deployed four times in support of the GWOT.  He first deployed to Samarra, Iraq from October 2008 to October 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then deployed three separate times throughout northern, eastern, and southern Afghanistan from 2009 to 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

CPT Merz's military education includes the Basic Officer Leader Course II, Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course, Airborne School, Sapper Leader Course, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, and the Maneuver Captain's Career Course.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), GWOT Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (third award), NATO ISAF Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, and the Meritorious Unit Citation.  His military and skill badges include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), Sapper Tab, and the Ranger Tab.



 

1SG John M. Farlow

1SG John Farlow was born in Beaufort NC where he entered the Army in 1992. 

His active-duty assignments include service with A CO 3/75th Ranger Battalion, Fort Benning GA from 1992-1996 as a rifleman, gun team leader, team leader and squad leader.  1SG Farlow PCS’ed to Darmstadt, GE in 1997 serving as an Assistant Team Leader and Team Leader in E CO 51st LRS. He returned to A CO 3/75 RGR BN in 2000 working as a squad leader, AT Section Sergeant, Battalion Air NCO, Assistant Operations NCO and Platoon Sergeant.  In 2006 he assumed the position as Pathfinder Branch NCOIC in 1/507th PIR.  His next assignment was with the Asymmetric Warfare Group in Fort Meade, MD where he worked as an Operational Advisor, Training Troop SGM and Troop SGM.  Currently he is assigned to HHT 2-38 CAV. 

1SG Farlow has deployed to Somalia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout Africa. 

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science from East Carolina University.  His military schools include Airborne, Ranger, Jungle Warfare, Reconnaissance Leaders Course, Pathfinder, Instructor Training course and the Stryker leader’s course.

1SG Farlow and his wife Valerie reside in Harker Heights TX, and are the parents of Maureen and Jacques.
