The 303rd Army Security Agency Battalion was activated on 15 June 1962 at Camp Wolters, Texas, where the battalion first became known as the ‘Longhorns.’ In 1966, the Battalion deployed to Vietnam where it would serve for the next 5 years until 1971. The 303rd ASA Battalion provided radio intelligence support to II Field Force at Long Binh.
Though hindered by difficult environmental conditions and the ever present threat of enemy attack, the 303rd successfully countered the innumerable problems inherent to obtaining responsive actionable intelligence.
The unit contributed in various civic action programs to the health and wellness and education of the Vietnamese people. Honors earned by the 303rd were 5 Meritorious Army Commendations between the periods of 1966-187, the Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class 1969-70, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm 1970-71.
