CSM Steven M. Adams

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Steven M. Adams enlisted in the Army in February 1994. He attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, Texas graduating as a 14J Early Warning Systems Operator.

CSM Adams has served in a variety of duty positions including: Instructor/Writer, New Equipment Trainer, 2d Battalion 6th Air Defense Artillery Regiment; Sentinel Team Chief, 1st Battalion, 3d Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 3d Infantry Division; Sentinel Section Sergeant, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 2dd Infantry Division; Instructor Writer, Crew Chief, Joint Tactical Ground Station Texas, US Army Space Command; Sentinel Platoon Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 3d Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 3d Infantry Division; Division Air and Missile Defense NCOIC and Rear G-3 Operations Noncommissioned Officer In Charge, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Infantry Division; Master Trainer, Joint Tactical Ground Station Texas, US Army Space Command; Detachment First Sergeant, Bravo Detachment, 1st Space Company, 1st Space Battalion, Qatar; First Sergeant, 1st Space Company, 1st Space Battalion; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command; and Operations Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. CSM Adams Special Duty assignments include working for the Secretary of Defense as the only Army Senior enlisted member selected for the “Why We Serve” program. CSM Adams participated in Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Desert Fox, Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom (I and III), and Enduring Freedom.

CSM Adams’s military schools and courses include: Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, Joint Tactical Ground Station Operators Course, Joint Tactical Ground Station Leaders Development Course, Air Force Advance Missile Warning and Defense Course, Air Force Space Fundamentals Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Foreign Disclosure Officer Course, Small Arms Master Gunners Course and United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 63).

CSM Adams current holds both a Private and Instrument Pilot Certificates and currently pursing a Bachelor of Science degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Professional Aeronautics.

CSM Adams’s Awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (Silver Clasp w/one Loop), National Defense Service Medal (One Bronze Service Star), Armed Force Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon (One Bronze Service Star), Iraq Campaign Medal (Three Bronze Service Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 6), Air Force Space and Missile Defense Badge, Army Space Badge, and Expert Driver Badge (Wheel). He is a recipient of the Honorable Order of both Saint Barbara and Saint Dominic awards. CSM Adams was also the 2008 Enlisted Soldier of the Year for Colorado Springs, Colorado.
