CSM James Brazill
Command Sergeant Major James Brazill hails from Whitehall, Montana and is the son of William and Sharon Brazill. He graduated Whitehall High School in 1987 and attended Montana State University where he began his Army career by enlisting in the Montana Army National Guard as a 16S, Man Portable Air Defense Stinger gunner (MANPAD) on 24 Feb 1988. After Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait on August 2nd 1990, then Private Brazill enlisted for active duty and served with HHB/2-44th ADA, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a MANPAD Stinger crewmember.
CSM Brazill has served in all levels of leadership from a Stinger Team Chief, Stinger/Avenger Section Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant. He has graduated all levels of NCOES from BLC to recently graduating from the Sergeants Major Academy Class 63 in June of 2013. SGM Brazill has also earned an Associates of Science Degree from Northern Michigan University and a Bachelors of Science Degree from Excelsior University.
CSM Brazill’s assignments include HHB/2-44th ADA, 101st ABN (AASLT) FT Campbell, KY; C/4-1 ADA (HAWK) Pirmasens GE; CSC 1-4 IN (OPFOR), Hohenfels GE; C/2-44 ADA, 101st ABN (AASLT) FT Campbell, KY; 3rd RCTG BN, Chillicothe Recruiting Station, Chillicothe, OH; C/2-44 ADA, 101st ABN (AASLT) FT Campbell, KY; 9th “Iron” BDE, Northern Michigan University ROTC, Marquette, MI; B/5-5 ADA (C-RAM), 31st ADA BDE, FT Lewis, WA; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA), FT Bliss, TX; 35th Air Defense Artillery BDE (Patriot), 8th Army, S. Korea; 6-52 AMD BN, 35th ADA BDE, Suwon, S. Korea; and finally at 1-44th ADA BN, 69th ADA BDE, FT Hood, TX. His combat tours include Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom I, III-IV, VIII-IX, and Operation New Dawn.
CSM Brazill’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star-1OLC; MSM-5OLC; ARCOM-4OLC; AAM-6OLC; Air Force Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Medal (MUC)-2 OLC; Army Superior Unit Award and many other campaign medals. Hard earned were the Gold Recruiter Badge with three Sapphire Stars and the coveted Air Assault Badge merited through the Sabalauski Air Assault School at Fort Campbell Kentucky, home to the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT).
CSM Brazill is married to Betty A. Brazill of Hendersonville TN and they currently reside in Nolanville near FT Hood, TX. Their daughter, SPC Rebecca Brazill is stationed at FT Sill, OK, serving with the 75th Field Artillery BDE, PFC Ryan Brazill is serving with 2-505th PIR, 82nd Airborne at FT Bragg, NC, and SSG Timothy Baker is stationed at FT Campbell, KY, HHB 101st DIVARTY, 101st ABN (AASLT).
