Command Sergeant Major Bowen joined the Army in July 1986. He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, GA. 

His assignments include: Team leader, 3/21 IN, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Squad Leader, Bradley Gunner, and Bradley Commander, 4/6 IN, Fort Polk, LA; Bradley Commander and Scout Section Leader, 2/7 Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX; Recruiter and Station Commander, US Army Recruiting Command Pittsburgh Recruiting Battalion, Pittsburgh, PA; Platoon Sergeant, 1/9 Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX; Observer Controller/Trainer, 1-307th IN, Fort Jackson, SC; First Sergeant, Apache Company, 1-501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Richardson and Khwost Province Afghanistan; First Sergeant, HHC 4th BCT (ABN), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson and Babil Province Iraq; Battalion Command Sergeant Major 1st Battalion, 335th Infantry Regiment, Camp Atterbury, IN.


He is a graduate of Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, and the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, U.S. Army Recruiting School, Pathfinder School, and Jumpmaster School. He is presently completing his bachelor's degree in education with Liberty University. 

His awards include the Bronze Star with 2 OLCs, Meritorious Service Medal with 4 OLCs, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Clusters, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary and Service), National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Gold Recruiter Badge with three Sapphires, Expert Infantry Badge, and Combat Infantry Badge.
