Major General Perry L. Wiggins became the Deputy Commanding General of United States Army North (Fifth Army), Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on 27 April 2009, and was authorized to wear the rank of Major General by the Chief of Staff of the Army on 28 December 2009. He received his commission as an Infantry Lieutenant from Mercer University in 1983. Major General Wiggins has served with the Army throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. He is an accomplished aviator and is qualified to fly a number of aircraft in the Army’s inventory. |

As a Company Commander, he participated in OPERATIONS DESERT
SHIELD and DESERT STORM during the first Gulf War; as
Battalion Commander of 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation
Regiment, he participated in OPERATION JOINT GUARDIAN in
Kosovo; as a member of the Air Force’s 93rd Air Control
Wing, he participated in OPERATION DESERT FOX, OPERATION
DESERT THUNDER, and OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH; and, as a
Brigade Commander of the 82nd Aviation Brigade, 82nd
Airborne Division, he participated in OPERATION IRAQI
FREEDOM. After serving on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon, Major General Wiggins became the Assistant Division Commander for Maneuver, 1st Infantry Division, 7 July 2008. On 17 July 2008, he assumed duties as the Acting Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley. Major General Wiggins is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College, where he earned a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies. Major General Wiggins is the recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with V device, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, Senior Aviator Badge, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
