Division West CSM Akuna

Command Sergeant Major Patrick K. Akuna, Jr. is a native of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. He entered the United States Army on August 5, 1985. CSM Akuna completed Basic and Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Georgia

CSM Akuna has served in every leadership position in the Infantry starting from Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Scout Squad Leader, Weapons Squad Leader, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Command Sergeant Major. His assignments include Team Leader and Squad Leader, 4th Battalion, 22Nd Infantry (Regulars), 25th Infantry Division (L), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Ranger Instructor, C Co. 4th Ranger Training Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade, Fort Benning, Georgia, Weapons Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant, C Co. 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry (Cacti), 25th Infantry Division (L), Schofield Barracks,

Hawaii, S-2 Intelligence NCOIC, HHC 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Battalion (Cacti), First Sergeant, C Co. 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry(Cacti), First Sergeant, HHC 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry (Cacti), First Sergeant, HHC 3rd Brigade (Broncos), 25th Infantry Division (L), Command Sergeants Major, 1st Battalion 4th Infantry (OPFOR), Hohenfels, Germany, and the Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry “Black Lions,” 172nd Infantry Brigade, Grafenwoehr, Germany, and the XIXth Regimental Command Sergeant Major of the 3d Cavalry Regiment (SBCT), Fort Hood, Texas. He currently serves as the First Army Division West Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Akuna’s military education includes all levels of the Non-Commissioned Officers Education System, Airborne School, Ranger School, Pathfinder School, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, Rappel Master Course, Canadian Airborne School, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, Malaysian Tracker Course, Malaysian Survival Course, Brunei Light Leaders Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 56, and , and the Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course..

CSM Akuna holds an Associate of Science in General Education - Criminal Justice through Troy State University. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security through Excelsior College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with 7 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Wings, and Canadian Parachutist Wings. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice and the Order of Saint George.
