More Information on the Deposit Waiver Program

  • WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A DEPOSIT WAIVER?
    The purpose of the waiver is to relieve the cost of locating to/in the Fort Hood area. Currently there are over 21,000 Soldiers participating, saving a total of over $8,000,000.00.
  • WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A WAIVER?
    All Soldiers/airmen assigned to Fort Hood are eligible for utility waivers and a rent deposit waivers. To receive a rent deposit waiver you need: a copy of your orders assigning you to Fort Hood, a copy of your lease, signed by both tenant and landlord, an inspection checklist (which indicates any broken/damaged items in an apartment, signed by both tenant and landlord) and you must be authorized to receive BAH.
  • CAN I RECEIVE A SECOND RENT DEPOSIT WAIVER?
    You may receive a second Rent Deposit Waiver by returning the first waiver from the previous landlord.
  • WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE?
    Soldiers with delinquencies reported on currently issued waivers and Soldiers who have cleared waivers with bankruptcies are not eligible for a deposit waiver. Soldiers who are not authorized BAH are not authorized Deposit Waivers.
  • CAN MY DEPENDENT SPOUSE GET A WAIVER IN MY ABSENCE?
    A Power of Attorney can be used by a spouse of a Soldier assigned to Fort Hood. He/she is additionally required to have a valid military identification card while requesting waivers and in the process of establishing services.
  • HOW DO I CLEAR A DEPOSIT WAIVER?
    After one year of service (providing there were no late payments or returned checks) Waivers need to be cleared and returned to the Deposit Waiver Office. The respective account must be paid to zero in cash at the local applicable utility office. WATER COMPANIES never establish credit, (except Harker Heights.) A deposit is required to clear water waivers for continuing service. Deposits usually range from $55.00 to 115.00.
  • I'M LEAVING FORT HOOD. WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY WAIVERS?
    All waivers must be physically returned to the Housing Office prior to a Soldier's departure from Fort Hood. This includes Soldiers who leave their family members in the Fort Hood area while assigned to another post or area (i.e. Korea, etc.)
